Caring for Your Knitwear
Washing
When it’s time to give your knit a thorough wash, handle it with care. Handwash the garment in cold water using a mild, bleach-free soap.
Start by turning the garment inside out. Dissolve a small amount of soap in the water, then submerge the knit and gently massage the suds through the fabric.
Drying
After rinsing your knit, gently squeeze out any excess water. Avoid twisting or wringing the garment, as this can damage its integrity. Instead, roll the knit in a clean towel to help absorb additional moisture.
Next, lay the freshly washed knit flat to dry in a well-ventilated area, keeping it out of direct sunlight.
Please refrain from dry cleaning your Royal Merino knitwear! It can be a chemically intensive process that is not kind to your garment or the planet.
Storage
Storing woollen items requires a bit more care than other fibers. Moths and silverfish are particularly attracted to wool, and their fixation can damage your cherished knitwear. Fortunately, you can deter these pests by placing a few drops of lavender, mint, or eucalyptus oil on a cotton ball and keeping it nestled among your knits.
Additionally, we recommend storing your clean, dry knitwear in an airtight container when you're not wearing it often.
Pilling
Pilling is a characteristic of knitwear.
To reduce this, Royal Merino garments are knitted with high-quality yarn at a precise tension. If you notice small bobbles forming, you can easily remove them by hand or gently brush them away with a knitwear comb.
Each beautiful knit we craft has been thoughtfully designed and made to stand the test of time and bring you joy for many years to come!
